Winter/Spring 2015.
Onions. The first vegetables to be put into the ground were yellow and red onion sets provided by the Plant-A-Row garden leaders in nearby Fayetteville, GA. Children from Ms. Woody's first grade sacrificed recess time to poke holes into the soil and plant baby onions 4" apart.
Planting onions is an excellent first time experience in the garden since the plants are large enough for small children to handle easily and planting is generally done in early February, when few other school activities are scheduled. Onions are often ready to pull up in May, before school is out for the summer.
