Garden Basics.
Gardening is both very simple and somewhat complex. In its simplest form, we put a seed or baby plant into the ground, water it, make sure it gets enough sunlight, and it grows. For some plants, this works without a hitch.
But a little reflection shows this series of events to be a bit oversimplified.
The three subsections of Garden Basics--Soil, Plants, and Critters--provide information that will help make every child's experiences in the garden more successful and satisfying.

- What plants grow well in Georgia's climate? Which ones don't do well?
- When during the year do we plant a particular vegetable? If we want more, can we plant something repeatedly or do we have to switch to something else for a while?
- How warm or cool does the weather need to be for a plant to grow well?
- How much water is needed and how do we know when a plant has enough?
- What makes garden soil fertile and productive? How do we improve it if it's not?
